Due to low test grades on our WWI unit, I am providing an additional extra credit opportunity. This is an out of school project. Parents are able to assist students with these projects. To get any credit, you must complete number 8 and need to choose at least 2 other projects. Please follow the instructions exactly as they appear on pages two and three of the document below. Each project you complete satisfactorily will be worth five extra credit points added to your lowest score for the unit. If you complete more than 3 projects you can receive 5 additional points per project. Due: 12/20 by 8:00 am No other opportunities will be provided for the remainder of the quarter to prove your mastery of the Social Studies standards. Please make every effort to complete these projects if you wish to pull up your grade prior to report cards. Social Studies: Students that turn in their WWI study guide complete and accurate tomorrow prior to the test may receive up to five points extra credit in addition to the other 7 points they could have earned on previous extra credit assignments. Students were given class time today to begin and reminded which resources they should use to complete the assignment. Students may also use the internet to complete any additional information they may not have in their given resources. The file is included below if a second copy is needed. Due tomorrow 12/11/2018 PRIOR to the test.
Science:
Research animal behaviors and create a t-chart to show how these behaviors can be classified as learned behaviors or instincts that an animal has at birth. Your chart should included at least 10 behaviors, with at least five instinct examples and five learned behavior examples. Students may earn up to 3 points for this task. Research and write an essay (5 paragraphs) to show how humans can benefit from the learned behaviors that some animals exhibit. (Example: Police use dogs to help enforce the law.) Use many examples to make your point. Students may earn up to 7 points toward their test for completing this task. Due: Tuesday 12/18/2018 by 8:00 am. Latin Derived Suffixes (-ance, -ence)

Knowing how to spell these suffixes will help you know how to spell many other words that end with one of the suffixes. Remember, not all words that end in those letters contain the suffix. 1. sentence 2. silence 3. sequence 4. importance 5. performance 6. clearance 7. guidance 8. instance 9. fragrance 10. attendance 11. absence 12. influence 13. evidence 14. affluence 15. vengeance Good Morning!

Happy Studying! -Miss Dobbins Good Morning! This week students are being allowed to complete some extra credit projects. These projects may be worked on during free time at school or at home. Students will not be given any class time to complete these, and they should be completed independently or with assistance from parents or older siblings only. Science Extra Credit Total Possible Points: 10 Create a hierarchy to show how scientists may classify plants and animals. These should be two separate hierarchies. Each hierarchy should show each classification level that students learned about in class as well as a description of the requirements of that section. (Ex. Mammals have fur, are warm blooded, have live young, etc.) In addition examples of possible species should be used under the most specific categories. Students were shown an example in class of what their hierarchy should look like. You may use any resources that have been given to you in class. This page will be used as a resource for students, parents, and Miss Dobbins to communicate information about what's going on in the classroom and to provide supplemental information on the standards for students and parents to explore at home. Each subject has a tab, and as we cover information and standards throughout the year additional information will be added. In each section you will find some general information about the topic, ideas for home connections or further research, and a variety of fun and engaging resources to check out and review from home.
As most of you know, I am going to also be on maternity leave during the last part of the year. During this time I will attempt to continue to update this site with important information and study materials and resources for review prior to our end of year tests. I am so excited for this webpage to grow with us in the classroom to contain a wonderful bank of resources for our students to master our standards and actively engage themselves in the learning process. Sincerely, Miss Dobbins |
